To enter,

Goodbye Bloom haul

Australian cosmetic line Bloom is being phased out of Superdrug, and since my local branch is selling the line at 50% off, I decided to pick up some bits to remember them by.

Eyeshadows in Slate and Night Sky (£6, were £12 each), liquid eyeliner in Ebony Brown (£6, was £12), and makeup base (£8, was £16).

The boxes are a bit bashed around, but my clever Superdrug in Harringay keep all the products in a locked drawer and box them up only when you buy them, so they are all pristine.

The eyeshadows come in smooth round compacts with mirrors inside the lids. They remind me of giant pinkish metallic Go counters.

Night Sky is a teal/blue duochrome. It reminds me a bit of MAC Tilt, but it's more fine and light in application and has a slightly sparkly finish.

Slate is a deliciously cool taupe with moderate shimmer and a slight khaki nuance. It's very pigmented when applied and would make a good crease shade.

Swatches...

Liquid eyeliner in Ebony Brown. This is a polymer liner with a nimble, fine brush. The shade is virtually black and has some very subtle gold shimmer. This held tight without cracking or peeling once it had dried. It comes off easily with oil-based remover though.

I picked up the makeup base hoping it might serve as a replacement for my dwindling supply of Paul & Joe Moisturising Primer N. It has a sunscreen, accordingto the packaging, but I'm not sure what factor. It's silicone based/oil-free, but doesn't feel siliconey - it's just like a lotion and sinks quickly into the skin. It smells of lavender.

Finally, here's a quick snap of how the eyeliner and Night Sky look when applied. You can see the duochrome effect of Night Sky in the crease of the eye, where it becomes purple-blue.

I'm sorry to see Bloom go. I don't think it was ever right for Superdrug - a brand at this pricepoint and with this quality of formulation and packaging really deserves a staffed counter to allow it to shine. Stuck on a fixture alongside wallet-friendly unit-shifters like Sleek and Barry M, it could only ever look overpriced.

Have you picked up any farewell Bloom buys? Would you like to see this brand sold elsewhere in the UK?

New Colorissimo lip palettes from Bourjois

I've been having some happy lunchbreak prowls round my local Superdrug recently. First they changed all the fixtures to a new design. Then they introduced Look to our Islington branch. And before that, Bloom got discontinued... it's been all action. Seriously, I've been fascinated.

Anyway, one of the lovely new things that caught my eye during my pre-prandial Superdrug safaris is the new Colorissimo lip palettes from Bourjois. There are 4 colourways, ranging from daytime nudes to "rawr" maroons and reds. Each palette contains an "everyday" shade for, like, everyday, a "statement" shade for big nights out, and a "chic" shade for super-sophisticated dinners a deux. There's also a double-ended flocked applicator (which is puzzling - surely one shade will be left out in the cold?) Best of all, they're currently on offer at Superdrug - £4.99 (will be £8.99)

From top: 01 Rouges Fashion, 03 Roses Fashion, 02 Roses Muses, 04 Nudes Dandy
I love these round palettes Bourjois have taken to producing. The smokey trio eyeshadows are so popular they've been imitated by other brands, while the 5-shade colour pearl palettes with their cute dots of powder bring out the miniature-loving part of me. I have yet to purchase one of those, but I did buy the Colorissimo palette in 03, Roses Fashion (corally pinks). I've yet to try it out, but will post lip swatches once I have.

Here's the full skinny on the Colourissimo palettes at bourjois.co.uk

Will you be picking any of these up?

Pick of the beauty sales... so far

Hands up if you couldn't resist nipping online on Christmas afternoon to take a look at what was coming up in the sales... Yeah? Me too. Well, between that and the Queen's speech, there wasn't much of a contest I'm afraid.

So where are the best bargains to be had? The big department stores seem to have very similar bits and pieces in their online sales this year - it's almost like they're all coming from the same big warehouse or something. Hmm. There are a few notable exceptions though...

Here are the bargains that have been filling up my online shopping baskets. (Whether I clicked "buy" or not will perhaps become apparent in later posts.)

Boots.com

Boots have lots of perfume gift sets as usual, and they've also done their usual thing of reducing all their stickered Christmas gifts by half. My picks would definitely be among the Poppy King for No 7 gift range, especially this gorgeous little red lip palette reduced to a bargainous £5. It's currently sold out online, but keep an eye out for it in store and with any luck the site will replenish its stock too.

There are also some very cute mini No 7 nail polishes to be snaffled up (£5 for a set of 5), and of course Boots is the place to go for all the discounted Soap & Glory gifts you can shake a pink retro-themed stick at.

Debenhams.com

The one to nab at Debenhams is absolutely the Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV, reduced to £36.80 (was £46). Did they order too much stock this year? They also have some steep discounts on This Works sets, and don't forget to check their offers on The Sanctuary if your local Boots has run dry of the set you want.

Space NK
The Space NK sale is now on officially, after a 24 preview for N.dulge card members. They've slashed most of the Absolution range by 50%, so it's definitely a good time to try this innovate natural skincare line if you haven't already. (Best not to count on re-buying it from Space NK though - discounts this wide don't look hopeful for the brand's future at this store.)

You can also expect to find lipsticks and eyeliners from Chantecaille and By Terry at half price (Chantecaille lipstick for a tenner? Yes please) and a very tempting gift set of 3 candles from Diptyque reduced from £60 to £30.

ASOS.com

With only 30% discount on their beauty sale, ASOS aren't tempting us as much as they might, but there are some good value Frederik Fekkai, Bliss and Paul & Joe seasonal sets that are worth a look if you particularly like those brands. I'm very very keen on these Manhattan collection palettes, £22 (were £30), which contain eyeshadow, blush and highlighter in a white Art Deco style case.

Free Clinique minis with April edition of Glamour magazine

To celebrate their 10th birthday, Glamour are giving away one of 10 mini Clinique treats (worth £80 in total) with each copy of the April edition of Glamour.

Look out for Fearne's smug chops (above) on the cover in your local newsagent. You can choose from the following:

Liquid Facial Soap 30ml (worth £1.95)
Take the Day Off lip and eye makeup remover 30ml (worth £3.48)
All About Eyes eye cream 5ml (worth £7.50) *
7 Day Scrub Rinse-off Formula 30ml (worth £5.10)
Long Last Glosswear 2.3ml  (worth £5.37)
Superbalm moisturising gloss 7ml (worth £6.07)
High Impact Mascara 4g  (worth £7.50)
Dramatically Different Moisturiser 30ml (worth £9)
High Impact Lipstick full size (worth £15) *
Moisture Surge Thirst Relief moisturiser 30ml (worth £18) *

It's like your very own pick-and-mix Bonus Time, without having to buy three-products-one-to-be-skincare! You do have to buy a £2 magazine each time, but in most cases the product exceeds that in value. (And it's something to read on the train, isn't it?) I've starred the ones I've picked up myself. I especially recommend the eye cream, which even in this teeny quantity will last for ages.

I'm sure that litterbins and recycling boxes all over Britain are groaning at the seams with unread copies of Glamour this week. The issue's on sale until 4th April, so don't hang about if you want to take advantage.

I found out about this via MoneySavingExpert, who did the sums for the above values. (Obviously. I can't do sums.)

Review - FCUK Polished Bathsyrup

FCUK's bath and body range has been a long-term fixture in the Luxury Bathing aisle at Boots, alongside stalwarts like Soap & Glory and Sanctuary. It's a range I've overlooked until this week, when a GWP offer and a desire for a good old-fashioned bubble bath piqued my curiosity enough to purchase this "Polished" Bathsyrup. (The range is divided into "Pure" and "Polished", two scent families with corresponding pink and green packaging).

Setting aside the slightly ridiculous product name ("Syrup"? Seriously?), this is really a rather nice product and one I'm glad I purchased. The packaging is a standard, sturdy plastic bottle with a chunky screw-top lid. At £5.11 for 500ml, it's cheap enough to slosh into the tub with a free rein, and it produces a voluminous cloud of fragrant bubbles that lasted around 45 minutes in my hard London bathwater.

The scent is lovely, unexpectedly so for a product in this price range. It's fruity, but subtle and delicate. The blurb on the bottle describes it as "sparkling mandarin and osmanthus flower with creamy vanilla notes". It lingers only slightly on the skin after washing, but if you were so inclined you could extend the scent experience with the complementary "Polished" body lotion and body spray.

The formula is not the most moisturising in the world, but it's not excessively drying either. The SLS that's probably responsible for the mountain of bubbles is offset with Vitamin E, Glycerin and grapeseed oil. There's Aloe Vera in there too, although it appears so far down the ingredient list that I suspect it's more of a marketing-led name-check than an active ingredient.

"Polished" Bathsyrup is available from Boots online and in Boots stores nationwide. There's currently a mini gift set available free with any FCUK bathing purchase of £4 or more.

Has anyone else tried anything from the "Pure" and "Polished FCUK range? Any further recommendations?

Boots Gift of the Week - Soap & Glory tote bag less than half price

Boots have saved the best til last with their final Gift of the Week - another bumper Soap & Glory gift set to reprise last year's Big Thrill Giant Hatbox. The Pink Big Tote Bag is £25, reduced from an RRP of £60 - saving £35. 2009's hatbox was offered at £20 (RRP £50), so it's an even better deal than last time.

Some of the Gift of the Week deals from Boots have made me a little suspicious this year - I've found myself wondering if the original RRPs had been inflated beforehand to make the deals look more impressive. However the total for all the products included in the Pink Big Tote Bag would be £66.15 if bought separately, so it's definitely a bona fide bargain.

The Pink Big offer went live in the early hours of this morning, and is currently available instore and online. My local Boots is very well-stocked with tote bags piled up to the ceiling, so the stores are definitely expecting a rush, but all the same you'd be wise act fast if you want to take advantage; last year the hatboxes flew off the shelves and couldn't be found for love nor money after a couple of days.

If you're partial to some Soap & Glory I definitely recommend getting your hands on this. It contains some of the brand's most popular products including Scrub Your Nose In It, Flake Away and The Righteous Butter. It's also a fine introduction to the brand for a friend or relative - although I'd suggest buying it for someone young with oily tendencies as it's rather scrub-heavy (3 different scrub products are included).

The tote bag contains:

- Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel (500ml)
- The Righteous Butter Body Butter (300ml)
- Flake Away Body Scrub (300ml)
- Girligo Scented Body Moisturising Mist (100ml)
- Glad Hair Day Ultra-Shine Super-Shampoo (250ml)
- The Breakfast Scrub Body Smoother (300ml)
- Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream (125ml)
- Scrub Your Nose In It Face Scrub And Mask (125ml)
- Super Colour Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Gloss in ‘Pink Apricot,’ (7ml)
- Off Your Face Cleansing Wipes (25 wipes)
- Giant Super Sudsy Shower Puff
Have you tracked down a tote bag for yourself or someone else? What did you think?

Today only: Stupidly good Nails Inc offer - 10 polishes for £25!

Via Lipglossiping (that temptress of an enabler), here's an offer that'll have you sprinting for your debit card. 10 Nails Inc polishes for £25, available online today only.

You get:

Berkeley Square – dark grey (nice)
Eagle Street – dusky nude (nice)
Duchess Street – vibrant purple (oh yes)
The Vale – deep plum (eh)
Eden Grove – vibrant teal (totally!)
Montrose Place – iridescent hot pink (less sure)
Buckingham Street – hot pink glitter (maybe over black)
Dean Street – pillar box red (can't go wrong)
Maple Street – metallic brown (nice for autumn)
Shelton Street – gold glitter (handy to have)

There's enough good stuff in there to make this deal totally worthwhile in my opinion, and even if you don't love them all, at this price you can happily give some away to friends and family.

Charlotte's also turned up a handy discount code that promises a further £5 off.

AND - Nails Inc are doing a postal promotion at the moment too, so you can get next day delivery for the usual standard delivery rate of £3.95.

Just think, this time tomorrow you could be happily painting each nail a different colour, high school style.

Go get 'em! (I'm typing in my card details right now.)

10p Postage on QVC Today

One thing that often puts me off buying things from QVC is their rather high £3.95 postage charge, which tends to apply per item.  Today, though, they're offering a selection of items with postage of just 10p, which makes purchasing a bit more palatable!

Check through the products available on the QVC UK website here.  I'm feeling very tempted by Laura Geller's Babycakes mini-blush collection, pictured above, which costs £26, and which I've been deliberating over for months.

What do you think?  Tempted?

Deal Alert! Seche Vite on 3 for 2 at Boots!

Annoyingly, Boots' website doesn't sell the all-important Seche Vite topcoat, only the less-famous Seche nailcare products. But if you can find it in a local branch, this is a great chance to stock up on the miracle fast-dry topcoat that nail-bloggers and manicurists swear by. It's £8.95 a bottle but I promise it's totally worth it.

The offer's on now at selected branches of Boots and is valid on all Seche. I'm afraid I can't tell you when it runs until as I only stumbled across it by accident while shopping!

No.7 GWP eyeshadow palette - not half bad

Gemma's rave review of No 7's Exceptional Definition mascara had me curious, and when I saw that there was also a GWP deal on it, I had to get my own. I bought mine with a £5 tillspit so in effect I got the mascara (RRP £12.00) and this 4 colour eyeshadow palette for just £7.00. Not bad.

The colours are autumnal and on the warm side, and they have a swirly, baked look to them in the pan. The pale gold is a bit gritty, but the green, brown and cranberry shades are rich and smooth. The palette is unusually solid for a GWP, is generously sized but still slimline, and has a good quality mirror in the lid.

Recommended bargain! Get yours now at Boots.

Free Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain with InStyle

I love a freebie with a magazine.  Glamour and InStyle have been leading the way in recent months, with Glamour giving away Benefit products and Nails Inc polishes, and InStyle giving away Nails Inc polishes too (what is it with Nails Inc?!).

InStyle are giving away the Body Shop's Lip & Cheek Stain in a choice of Bronze Glimmer or Rose Pink, worth £9.50 each, with their September issue.  The Rose Pink variety looks to be a good dupe for Benefit's cult stain, Benetint, which I never quite got round to buying, mostly because of the cost and very large bottle.  I'll definitely be picking up an InStyle to try out the Rose Pink variety.

If you want to find out more (not that there's much more to it than that!), information can be found on the InStyle site.

Yet More Illamasqua Deals

Illamasqua are now stocked by BeautyBay.com, one of our favourite online beauty stores.  As a special opening offer, they are offering a free nail varnish in Boosh with any two Illamasqua purchases.

With the current slew of money off deals from the brand, and their move into online beauty emporia (unusual for a high end boutique brand), I'm wondering what the future holds for them.  Either they're on a major expansion kick, looking to get their products into as many makeup bags as possible... or their sales figures are looking a little weak and the company is trying to drive them up.  I'm hoping it's the former; despite thinking that the products are a little overpriced, I like Illamasqua as a company and think it's great to have a unique British brand with such a strong identity in the market.

Even More Illamasqua Deals

The number of deals and offers out on Illamasqua products recently, I'd be surprised if anyone's paid full price in quite some time!  As well as the infamous Makeup Amnesty, Illamasqua are also selling off soon-to-be discontinued products at 50% off.  Some highlights include shades of Intense Lipgloss for £6.25, lipstick for £7.50, and a great many shades of Powder Eyeshadow for £7.50.

The picture on the left is of Filth lipstick.  Who doesn't need a lipstick called Filth?!

Will you be indulging?
