Review & Competition: Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things Holiday Set

Too Faced are good at palettes - and one of this year's Christmas offerings is an absolute corker.  A Few Of My Favourite Things may be quite wordy, and even worse put a certain annoying song in your head, but it's full of gorgeously soft eyeshadows and well pigmented cheek products, and comes with a mini mascara and a lipstick.  What more could you need?  Read on for an in-depth, picture heavy review and EVEN BETTER!  A competition to win one of your very own.

Review & Competition - Fudge Urban Hair Chalks

Fudge have released some hair chalks - and unlike the L'Oreal Professional chalks doing the rounds at the moment, they're powder based, rather than a liquid.

The powder makes for a slightly easier, albeit less intense application.  Simply rub the domed top of the product onto the hair, set with hairspray, and go.

I do wonder how quickly this product would run out - the colour isn't particularly high above the neck of the packaging, and once the colour dips below the neck, I'd imagine it'll get pretty hard to use.

Anyway, to show you the full effect I needed to test out this lovely red hair chalk.  Obviously, my hair is already red, so I couldn't do it myself.  Luckily, there's someone else in this house with plenty of hair.

This is my husband.  His name is Carl.  I won't refer to him as Mr London Beauty Review as other bloggers do, because he's from the North and wouldn't be having with that.  As you can see, Carl has plenty of flowing hair.  It's longer than mine.

A few minutes later, and he now has long, flowing, red hair.  Yes, I artfully arranged that lock atop his head.  Yes, he had a shower pretty much immediately after I took this photo.

And no, the Fudge hair chalk doesn't really change the texture of the hair that much - the soft, powdery texture coats the hair but doesn't weigh it down or make it sticky or crispy.  They also don't stain the hair at all, washing out easily with normal shampoo.

They're available at Superdrug, and at a mere £5.99 each, you can give yourself a DIY ombre, a bright streak, or similarly attack your other half.

But wait!

I have four chalks to give away - in white, red, blue and pink.  The competition will run for the next week, and you can enter via Rafflecoper below.

WIN! Too Faced The Return Of Sexy Palette

I purchased and reviewed Too Faced's rather beautiful The Return Of Sexy palette a couple of months back, and then received another one from the brand's PR this week.  What to do with the brand new palette?  Give it away to you guys of course!

I'm running this competition through Rafflecopter, and basically if you tweet about the competition, follow me on Twitter, or like my Facebook page, you'll get one entry.  If you do all three, you get three entries.  The winner will be chosen by random selection after the competition closes on Friday 29th October.  Good luck!

COMPETITION: Carex Hand Cream in Aloe Vera and Vitamin E

I don't really get excited by hand cream.  When I was offered the chance to review two new hand creams from Carex and the opportunity to give away 6 tubes to readers of LBR, though, I was interested - because these aren't just hand creams.  Carex have formulated them to provide instant hydration, long lasting moisture, and an antibacterial action.  It's that last bit which is a little unusual - most hand creams are concerned with moisture and nothing else.  These hand creams are plenty moisturising but come with the additional benefit for antibacterial action - and they're much, much nicer than using antibacterial hand gel.  You know, the alcoholic stuff which leaves your hands feeling rather dry.  Not nice, but a necessity if you travel on the Tube regularly.

There's not a great deal of difference between the Vitamin E and the Aloe Vera varieties - the scent is slightly different, with the Aloe version smelling ever so slightly more medicinal.  Both sink in quickly into the hands, leaving them feeling velvety soft and not at all sticky.  Fingers back on the keyboard within a minute.

If you're the kind of person who carries hand sanitising gel as well as hand cream in your bag, you might find that this two-in-one product gives you the best of both worlds in one tube.  I'll be slipping one into my bag from now on.

I also mentioned I have 3 tubes of each variety to give away.  This'll be a Twitter competition - just follow me and retweet the competition tweet, and you're good to go.

Disclosure:  PR samples. Competition prizes provided by Carex PR, and will be posted to the winners by Carex PR.

Mystery Vaseline contest!

Vaseline have another mystery flavour in the pipeline, and they've decided to begin the launch with a blogger crafting competition. Mystery tins were mailed out to UK bloggers with a juicy selection of crafty bits including sequins, ribbons and glitter. Our task: guess the new flavour and jazz up the blank tin using our creative skillz. The payoff: a trip to Paris for us if the tin is picked... and a trip to Paris for a lucky reader too.

My eyes generally light up at the prospect of anything crafty, so I was thrilled to empty out a Jiffy bag full of these exciting art supplies.

Also inside the bag were some clues as to the mystery flavour.

If that weren't enough, one of the ingredients on the tin is "wine extract"... so I think it's pretty safe to say that the new flavour is... Pink champagne.

I based my design around the famous quote attributed to Dom Perignon, the 17th century monk who was involved in producing the first champagne. On first tasting the bubbly, he supposedly said "Come quickly, I am drinking the stars!"

Whether or not that's true, it was good inspiration for my star-covered tin. I also gave it a studded edge with some some pink gem decals, and added a bit of glitter to some of the stars.

The new Vaseline flavour will go on sale in Selfridges on 5th September, costing £3.49.

We've also been told that the people at Vaseline would really like to hear your suggestions for future limited editions. So if there's a flavour you'd like to see created, let us know in the comments.

WIN! 3 x Barry M Instant Nail Effects

I popped into town this morning and managed to bag three bottles of Barry M's latest product, Instant Nail Effects, which is causing a stir with it's magically easy crackle effect.  It's been selling out as fast as Barry M can restock it - so if you've been having trouble finding yourself a bottle, now's your chance.

The competition will close on Monday night at 9pm, and assuming the three winners give me their addresses quickly enough, I'll post the prizes the next day, which should allow the winners to get their paws on them pronto!  Unfortunately, due to restrictions with posting nail polish internationally, this competition is open to UK readers only.

To enter, all you need do is:

  • Follow the blog via Google Friend Connect
  • Leave a comment using the account you use to follow us
It'd be helpful if your comment included your email address so we can get hold of you as fast as possible, but if you'd prefer not to - just make sure you check back late Monday night when we announce the winners!

If you've not already entered our competition to win two products from the newest addition to French brand L'Occitane's skincare stable, there's still a week to enter!  It's ridiculously simple: simply follow the blog and make up a name for your own anti ageing product.

Don't miss out!

WIN! L'Occitane Divine Immortelle Serum + Eye Treatment

French brand L'Occitane are releasing a new range of (rather dramatically named) anti-ageing skincare, which includes Immortelle essential oil, believed to help with cell regeneration and to have anti-ageing properties.  It's due to launch in October in the UK, and we've got a set of the Divine Extract serum and Divine Eyes treatment to give away to one lucky reader!  Alongside this competition, we'll also be putting samples of the same products through their paces via Sarah's Mum (thanks Sarah's Mum!).

So, if you'd like the chance of trying out these luxurious new products, you need to do two simple things; firstly, you'll need to be a follower of the LBR, and secondly, leave us a comment below (using the account with which you are a follower) answering the following question...

If you were to create an anti-ageing range, what would you call it?

Silly or simple, terrible pun or elegant name, we've all seen some very strange names being applied to anti-ageing products, and we'd like to see what you can do on the same theme!

The competition will close in two weeks, on Saturday 2nd October.  Good luck!

International entrants welcome.

Nail polish inspiration - for Illamasqua

Illamasqua are running a contest at the moment to find the inspiration for a new shade of nail polish. It closes on March 14th (Sunday) so get your skates on if you want to enter.

As I'm always banging on about duochromes, and am especially fond of those that appear in the natural world, my choice is pretty obvious. My entry to the contest is below.

Cetonia aurata - the rose chafer beetle, pictured by ParaScubaSailor on Flickr

A polish in tribute to the jewelled beauty of the rose chafer. Clinging to the fingertips like 6 delicate legs, shimmering rose gold and green like the multi-faceted wing-cases of this gentle springtime insect. Vibrant and shining, shifting colours on a blue-black base. An unconventional beauty brought into the spotlight.
