OMGCOLOUR: Bourjois Volume Glamour Max Holidays Mascara in Blue & Purple

Bourjois have released a new variation on their Volume Glamour Max mascara - rather strangely named Holidays, it comes in a slightly smaller, chubbier tube than the original, and most importantly comes in four shades - Ultra Black, Green Lagoon, Electric Blue and Indigo.  I don't know about you, but holidays doesn't really translate to coloured mascara for me, but hey, let's give it a shot anyway.

I started off with Indigo, which I rightly thought would complement my hazel eyes.  Two coats later and I was impressed with the colour - and somewhat impressed with the formula.  There's definitely volume there, but it's not the most volume I've ever had from a mascara.  I wonder if my lashes look less voluminous because there's no black for maximum contrast.

I decided to try Electric Blue on top of an existing coat of black to see if I could get contrast as well as colour, particularly on my generally blonde and unnoticeable lashes.  And the effects are a little better, even if my lashes are a little clumpy - big volume, hint of colour, also flattering to my hazel eyes.  Since taking these photos I've had better luck applying on top of mascara which dries flexible and soft rather than solid - this helps avoid the clumps.

And for comparison, my un-matching blue and purple lashes.  I definitely prefer how the colour looks on top of black - if your lashes are naturally dark you might not need this step, but for those with light lashes, it's pretty essential.

You'll find these thoroughly decent coloured mascaras at Boots, where they cost a mere £5.99 - an inexpensive and relatively easy to use way to experiement with brightly coloured mascara, if like me you've mostly worn darker colours in the past.

  1. I'm ridiculously excited by this! I liked the Volume Glamour formula when I tried the regular version before, but I have allergies to some black pigments so I am unable to wear most black mascaras, the Bourjois collection included. But I can wear these! And I have dark brown eyes, so blue-toned mascara tends to be flattering on me. Yay!

    1. That's great! I've not heard of an allergy to black pigments before - that must be so horrible for you - at least the market is full of nice coloured mascaras nowadays so you get a bit of variey!
