Review & Swatches: YSL Babydoll Eyeliner in Noir and Rose

Metallic pink eyeliner!!!! I first saw these lovely new Babydoll eyeliners from YSL at an event a few months ago and I immediately fixated on the pink variety.  Such an unusual colour for eyeliner.  Having observed a professional apply a double-flick effect with the pink and black shades, I knew I'd have to try it myself.

Anyway, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.  These Babydoll liners match the Babydoll mascara, which I thought was pretty good apart from the slight flaking issues.  The liners are the polymer kind - similar to Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liner or Illamasqua Precision Ink - and they give highly pigmented colour with a lovely finish; matte and inky for the black, pink and metallic for the, err, pink.

They also have brushes which are somewhat fiddly.  They're very slim, very flexible, and feel more attuned to painting on your liner - which is something that I'm not quite steady-handed enough to do effectively.

Lovely opacity.  Lovely, shiny pink.  Pink.

It took me bloody ages to do these pink and black double flicks.  I'd rather that the black flicks were more defined, but having redone the pink flicks about five times I didn't want to risk ruining them, so the black liner is much more simple.  The brush really doesn't help - it you have steady surgeon's hands you might fare better, but us mere mortals will struggle.

Even though it's chronically difficult to apply, I really do love the Rose liner - it's such an unusual and pretty colour, and it really brings out the green in my eyes.  The black is pretty nice, but ultimately there are loads of black eyeliners on the market which are easier to use.

Find them online at the YSL website, where each liner will cost you a staggering £24 - a lot to pay for something beautiful but hard to use - but acceptable for a colour as unique as Rose.
