Review: Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Celestial

I've heard some mixed reviews about Rimmel's latest lip launch, Apocalips.  In the interests of scientific experimentation, I decided to pick one up and see what I thought for myself - and I chose Celestial, a lovely neutral toned mid pink.

First of all, I really hate the name of this product.  I get that it's a clever play on words but really, lipstick has nothing to do with the apocalypse.  Unless, of course, Rimmel are suggesting that lipstick is the sort that you should meet the end of days wearing.  Which is a bit macabre, innit?

Anyway, stupid name aside, the packaging is rather lovely - a slimline tube with a faceted cap.  The applicator is a standard does foot one, and the product it dispenses is a highly pigmented, glossy cream which gives a gloriously full pigment effect with a hefty dose of shine.

Celestial is a lovely colour - unlike most mid-pinks, it's not too warm for my skintone, and it's strong enough to look striking but not strong enough to work only with a pared down eye.

Unfortunately though, as much as the colour and texture appeal, the wear definitely does not.  Within an hour, the shine and pigmentation dulls down, fading evenly but fading incredibly fast.  Which is a damn shame, as with a little more longevity, this'd be a lovely product.

Find it at Boots, where it costs a mere £5.99, if you'd like to give it a go yourself.  Just don't have high expectations!
