Review: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Golden Lustre Lipstick in Rose de Saba

I love a good YSL lipstick.  Packaged in that iconic sleek gold, they just feel like a special treat.  I've not tried one of their Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks before, and so I was pleased to try this one - from the Golden Lustre sub-range - which is part of the summer 2013 lineup.

Rose de Saba, or #114, is a beautiful muted rose shade which leans quite cool, making it a lovely neutral on those with cool or neutral skintones.  It has an ever so slight greyish cast to it, so even though it's a pink shade, it's not overly rosy or warm.  The bullet doesn't look like it has a particularly high volume of the aforementioned "golden lustre" in it, but on the lip, it's far more apparent.

On the lip, it's actually a pretty frosty lipstick - the gold shimmer is very strong.  The base shade is absolutely gorgeous, and if it didn't have so much shimmer in it I'd pronounce it my new favourite neutral shade.  Even with the shimmer, it's pretty special.

In the context of my full face, the shimmer doesn't grab your attention quite so much, provided you pair it with more matte textures - this lipstick would probably look a little over the top paired with shimmering eyeshadow and sparkling blush.

Texture wise, it's incredibly smooth to apply, and although it goes on slick and plush, the colour sets down within a few moments and sticks to the lips rather well, lasting around four hours before it fades away.  It can get a little dry in the last hour, but it's not massively uncomfortable.

At £25, this lipstick is undoubtedly expensive.  But is it worth it?  For me, I'd say it was completely worth it if it had just a little less shimmer - it has a lovely texture, very pretty base colour, and as always for YSL it gives you a little of that luxe-brand excitement when you use it.  I prefer wearing my sparkle on my eyelids, but if you love a shimmering lip colour, it's well worth checking out.  Find it now at YSL counters or online via the YSL Beauty website.
