Quick Pick: Estee Lauder Sumptuous Two Tone Mascara

This isn't a particularly new product from Estee Lauder, but it is pretty innovative.  Sumptuous Two Tone Mascara aims to give you a complete package for both top and bottom lashes, offsetting a rich, black, volumising mascara for the top lashes against a smudge resistant brown mascara for bottom lashes.  Clever, eh?

The biggest benefit, of course, is that you don't have to carry around two separate mascaras for top and bottom lashes (if you already use different mascaras, of course), nor do you have to carefully dab your volumising mascara against your bottom lashes to get just a hint of colour rather than the full volumising effect.

The mascara for the top lashes has a rich black colour and a cone shaped, densely bristled brush.  Estee Lauder have trademarked "Brushcomber" to describe it, which doesn't seem particularly descriptive at all.

The micro brush on the other side is still graduated in shape, but much less cone-y than the mascara for the top lashes.  The brown mascara is less thick and sticky than the black mascara, adding a light tint rather than coating the lashes.

And finally, applied to my eye.  There are two coats on my top lashes, and a single coat on the bottom lashes.  I find it difficult to really see the difference between black and brown mascara, usually, and indeed you can't really see the colour difference here.  However, the bottom lashes aren't quite so IN YOUR FACE as the top lashes, partly due to the light formula, and partly due to the lighter colour.  The overall effect opens up the eye nicely.

At £25, it is a bit on the expensive side - but I'm pretty convinced that you get what you pay for with mascara, and this is really two products in one, so I think it's reasonably good value - particularly given that Clinique charge £11 for their Bottom Lash Mascara alone.  Find it now at Estee Lauder counters and online via their website.

  1. that is an amazing idea! I need to get some of that because I never use mascara on my bottom lashes because of how "in your face" it looks
