Review & Swatches: REN Satin Perfection BB Cream

REN's Satin Perfection BB Cream is a somewhat new direction for the cult skincare brand, given that their extensive lineup doesn't currently contain colour products.  REN see BB cream as a halfway house - not skincare, not colour, and their BB cream is certainly different to many of those I've tried recently.

This is the Light/Medium variety, and it looks a little bit orange in the tube.  Packaging, as always for REN, is simple and effective - the product is sealed from the air and is dispensed through a pump.

A couple of pumps looks a little less orange, but still not at all the right colour for my skin.  But don't be fooled.  The selling point of this particular BB is that it doesn't provide a high level of foundation like coverage - the effect is a more even skintone, a satiny glow, and a natural finish.

Smoothed out, you can see it's still completely the wrong colour for my very cool skin.  Also, a bit too orange.

Blended in, however, the cream has magically adapted to my skintone, providing a lovely even finish which isn't shiny-shiny but still has a lovely glow.  If you look really closely, it's still a touch too warm for my winter-white skin, but for those with a more golden undertone (and probably for me in the summer), it's likely to be a great match.

Given that this BB cream is made by a company who creates high quality, high performance skincare, I'm inclined to believe that the skincare benefits are more effective than, say, a BB created by a colour-only brand.  If you're looking for a BB cream which provides foundation like coverage, this won't be for you - but if your skintone is slightly warm and light to medium in tone, and you like subtle, natural coverage, it's definitely worth investigating.  My mother has claimed my tube, as she hates foundation, but loves the natural glowy effect that this cream gives.

It costs £26 - not cheap, but on a par with similar BB creams from brands like Clinique and Clarins.  You can find it at Space NK, and other REN stockists.

    1. It's quite a light texture, very creamy, but blends out in as if it has a silicone base (although it definitely doesn't). Natural matte finish I'd say - not completely matte, bit satiny, very real skin look!

  3. Its brilliant even for my skin tone, being more olive. Also whats brilliant about this product is that it has oil absorbing properties. I no longer have that annoying afternoon t-zone shine.

    Lovely write up too. Thanks
