Review & Swatches: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Rouge Madras

This is my first Rouge Pur Couture lipstick, and wow, it just screams luxury from when you open the cap to when you close it after application.  The casing is the usual weighty, high shine gold which makes YSL products stand out so much in the beauty landscape.  It's heavy, luxe, and extremely prone to fingerprints, so if you're anything like I am, you'll spend a fair bit of time polishing it with your sleeve.

Rouge Madras is a beautiful ruby red shade with tiny sparkles.  It's got a satin finish with a little bit of sheen, and the sparkles add depth and dimension rather than being obviously glittery.  The Rouge Pur Couture texture is absolutely lovely - it glides off the bullet onto the lip, is packed with pigment, and feels almost too emollient before it sets down.  Once set, it lasts for hours - enduring even a good meal and several pints of water without bleeding or uneven wear.  It does become more muted as it wears, but the coverage remains even and the feeling comfortable.

This is one swipe over the lips - pigmented stuff indeed, and gloriously comfortable.  The texture, wear and comfort levels remind me somewhat of Estee Lauder's Pure Color lipsticks, which are a little cheaper than the YSL, but not quite so luxe, packaging wise.

I rather think I'll be investigating more of these next time I wander too near to a YSL counter.  Find Rouge Madras at YSL counters and concessions, where it will set you back £23.50.

  2. Gorgeous, isn't it? It's definitely a WOW red as opposed to a subtle one. Still, I've worn it for daytime a few times and it's lasted really well.
