Review & Swatches: Clinique Almost Lipstick in Tender Honey, Flirty Honey, and Chic Honey

Clinique's Almost Lipstick has been around for ages in the form of Black Honey, a classic deep reddish shade which applies sheerly for a rosy, moist finish.  Clinique have now added more shades to Almost Lipstick line, including these three; Tender Honey, Flirty Honey, and Chic Honey.  Like the original Black Honey variety, they're all moist, balm-like textures with a sheer tint of colour which is incredibly comfortable to wear and leaves the lips feeling smooth and soft.

Of the three, I think Flirty Honey, a mid-pink, is my favourite.  Chic Honey is closer to the original Black Honey, with its purplish red tones, and Tender Honey is an excellent my-lips-but-better neutral.  The shine is subtle - more a moist, lush finish than a glossy one.

On the lip, the Almost Lipsticks look soft and natural, coloured with the barest tint rather than with any real colour.  It's a subtle, fresh look - great for pairing with a richer eye look, or for a pared-down spring look which is more netural.

As you might expect, wear isn't the biggest drawing point of these - you'll get a couple of hours before the lips have absorbed all the moisture and reapplication is necessary.  Luckily, thanks to the slimline stick format of the product, you can easily reapply straight from the stick - and I've found I don't really need a mirror either, thanks to the sheerness of the shades.

All in all, a lovely soft, light colour perfect for a more subtle, natural look or for those who don't like the weight or feel of a proper lipstick.  Find them at Clinique counters, concessions, and online at the Clinique website, where each stick of balmy goodness will cost £16.

  1. Such pretty colours - I keep meaning to buy black honey, as I love the almost lipsticks... I wonder if these are what the much hyped Revlon Lip Butter aspire to (obviously I'll buy some to find out... ;))

    1. I was wondering that too! From what I've seen, the Revlon Lip Butters are slightly more pigmented than these. I expect the texture is similar, though :)
