Swatch: Illamasqua Lipstick in Drench

I've not yet had a chance to wear this rather pretty rosy red lipstick from Illamasqua, but I thought that since it's currently available in their January sale for £7.50, less than half of the usual £15.50 price tag, I'd get a couple of photos up pronto.  The packaging is sleek and shiny, and feels reasonably weighty and solid in the hand.  The shape of the bullet is rather unusual in it's largeness - there's a fair bit of surface area in the tip, and whilst the fine edge around the top of the bullet is perfect for careful lining, the large tip can be a little ungainly if you like to apply lipstick straight from the tube.  My lips are reasonably full with a defined cupid's bow, and I've had to be super careful applying the colour to avoid going outside my natural lip line.

I was expecting the colour to be a little more pink and a little less red from the swatches I'd seen online, and whilst it's still a blue-toned red shade, it's a lot less in-your-face red than, say, my new favourite classic red, Rockalily Roulette Red.  The pigmentation is also less scary than other reds I've tried and loved in the past - the opacity shown below was built up with a couple of passes over the lips, so this is definitely a lipstick that can be worn more sheerly if a full on red pout isn't quite you.

The texture is smooth and moisturising, and feels weightless on the lip.  I quite like the finish; it's semi-matte, but a moist, lush looking matte, with no chalkiness or over-emphasis of dry patches.

If you like the look of this one, get yourself down to the Illamasqua sale, and scoop it up at the reduced price of £7.50.
