Review: Timothy Han London candle in Oakmoss & Vetiver

If you're looking for a soothing, subtle scent for your home to ease you back into the daily grind, look no further than this rather sophisticated all-natural candle from Timothy Han London.

Timothy Han is one of the more minimalist luxury candle purveyors - his approach is to produce pared down, simple fragrances in neutral packaging, using materials that are responsibly sourced. The candles are hand-poured using natural wax and lead-free unbleached cotton wicks. The scents are derived from a blend of essential oils.

In choosing Oakmoss & Vetiver, I was expecting something very earthy, pungent and strong (which I like), but instead this scent is very gentle and encroaches almost imperceptibly into the room as the candle burns. It takes you gently by surprise - it was only on walking back into my room after visiting the kitchen that I realised what a beautiful subtle scent the candle had created.

I did notice a bit of  "tunnelling" after the first burn of the candle, despite leaving it burning for around 3 hours. This is a shame, as I thought the soy wax would avoid this problem. However, it hasn't stopped me enjoying the scent and the cool green glass on my shelf. It's one of the most aesthetically pleasing candles in my collection.

I'd have to say that my choice for an all-natural artisan candle would still be something from Jonathan Ward, whose fragrances are more overt and complex, but I'll be keeping an eye on Timothy Han's range, especially his new spring collection of organic skincare, slated for release in the spring, which hopefully will smell as good and create as much of a peaceful ambiance as his candles.
