Review: By Terry Terrybly Mascara in #4 Purple Success

The night I picked up my prized Terrybly lipstick left my wallet feeling a little bit light - because not only did I drop £31 on a single lipstick, I also chose to spend £31 on a Terrybly mascara to go with it.  One of the By Terry artists in the Space NK store I visited applied some of this growth boosting, lash thickening mascara for me, and it was instant love.

The formula gives volume and plenty of it, aided by a big fat brush with deep bristles.  It's a reasonably thin mascara, so you get a decent amount of definition and cleanness in the application, making it hard to clump unless you layer on several layers.  It also leaves the lashes feeling pleasantly soft and flexible, and not at all brittle, heavy or coated.  The best thing about it, though, is the colour.

#4 Purple Success is a rich, vibrant purple which looks quite bright when photographed with a flash.  On the eye, though, it's a little more subtle - and whilst you can definitely tell it's purple when bright sunlight hits the lashes full on, it's more of a deep plum in normal light, giving a boost to hazel or green eyes and providing a little interest without being too much.

The colour is incredibly flattering on my greenish eyes, and I'm perfectly happy with the level of volume and definition given with two coats.  Admittedly, I've seen very little change in the condition of my lashes since I started using this - but I didn't really buy it for the lash health benefits.  I bought it because of the beautiful, wearable colour, and the lush, voluminous results.

At £31, this is definitely a luxurious purchase, but I'll always be prepared to spend a little more on mascara than I will on other bits of makeup, as I feel it's one product where spending a bit extra gets you undeniably great results.  I would definitely repurchase.  If you like the look of this, you'll find it at Space NK, both in store and online, in black, blue and brown as well as this fabulous purple.
