Review & Swatches: JK Jemma Kidd Urban Rose Hi-Design eyeshadow collection

Jemma Kidd has released 6 new powder eyeshadows in the JK: Jemma Kidd line, as part of her Urban Rose collection for A/W 11.

The collection is split distinctly down the middle in terms of style, with 3 cool, bright, vivid tones and 3 warm-ish neutrals. Each one is housed in a transparent hinged compact with the JK logo printed on the top. The logo is also pressed into the surface of the pans in a delicate repeating pattern - it's a very appealing design touch. The compacts are sturdy and well-made, with pleasantly tactile rounded corners. They remind me a little bit of the now-discontinued Calvin Klein eyeshadow compacts in shape and feel.

I absolutely love the colour choices in the cool bright half of the collection. Gemma and I were both instantly drawn to Sashay, a dusty lilac-grey with a very subtle, dulled pink shimmer. It's a beautiful colour. There's also something wonderful about Trend, a vividly pigmented teal that reminds me of MAC's Parrot.

The neutrals are less "wow", but all are highly wearable and the matte highlight can't fail to be useful in finishing looks and offsetting brighter colours. Of these 3, Luxe is my favourite. It's somewhere between beige and taupe. It looks very sleek and understated on the eye, with just enough shimmer to create a little flash when you blink or turn your head.

The texture of all the shadows is on the drier side, and they do crumble a little bit when confronted with a brush. This is fine for me as I would never use them without a primer to hold them in place, and is much better for me than a greasy texture.

JK Jemma Kidd Hi-Design eyecolours are £8 each, available from jemmakidd.com
