Review and Swatches: Clinique Color Surge Eyeshadow Quad in Black Honey

Black Honey is a pretty iconic part of Clinique's makeup lineup.  Originally a best seller in the form of their balm like Almost Lipstick, this autumn it's been the inspiration for an entire makeup range in its own right.  This pretty, undulating lidded palette is the eyeshadow interpretation of the famous shade.

Inside you'll find four shades, ranging from a delicate ivory to a sparkling reddish brown.  This is a very neutral palette, but with a reddish twist.  There's a good mixture of textures involved; the ivory shade is matte, the second honey beige is metallic, the third brick shade is semi matte, and the fourth red brown is semi matte with sparkle.

Swatched, they all come off rather sheer, with the exception of the second honey beige, which packs a gorgeously pigmented punch thanks to its metallic finish.  All of the eyeshadows apply smoothly, and whilst not buttery soft and blendable, they are easy to build up as required.

On the eye, the shadows are perfect for a neutral look with a bit of a red twist.  They are extremely flattering on green or hazel eyes, too.  I did have to pack on the third and fourth colours to get decent payoff, but I'm pleased with the overall effect - although for me, I'd rather they were a little more pigmented.  I can see this being a perfect palette for someone who wants a wearable, fool proof set of shades - it would be difficult to over apply these colours without realising it!

The Black Honey eyeshadow quad is available at Clinique counters and via Clinique's website, where it costs £23.  What do you think?  Tried Clinique's Color Surge palettes before?  Let us know in the comments!
