Sugarpill Cosmetics was founded by Amy, also known as Shrinkle, one of the new wave of internet trendsetters and one time friend of Doe Deere of Lime Crime fame. Sugarpill's products, currently centred around eye colours and lashes, are brightly coloured, highly pigmented, and for a niche range are pretty professional in their presentation.
Anyhow, the Chromalust eyeshadows are the loose pigment product, reputed to be beautifully pigmented, with metallic finishes and good wear. I chose to pick up a generously packed jar of Magpie, described as a smoky black with blue metallic flash and turquoise sparkles.
The colour is indeed beautiful, with a gorgeous metallic sheen. The eyeshadow itself is soft, easy to pack on the lid, and blends smoothly. Applied dry, it's not entirely opaque unless you really pack it on; for maximum coverage and impact, it's best applied with a slightly damp brush for a more foiled effect.
Even applied dry, Magpie makes for an attention grabbing smoky eye, perfect for night time.
Lovely. At £8.25 for 5g, this is a pretty decently priced, decent quality loose eyeshadow which packs a lot of punch. It's not world-changing stuff, though - many companies make lovely loose eyeshadows, and whilst this is definitely one of the better ones I've tried, there's nothing exceptional about it.
If you're looking for a good quality, well priced loose eyeshadow with a beautifully metallic finish, and you're after some bright colours - Sugarpill Chromalusts are definitely worth checking out. As much as this looks lovely, I'll always be in love with Fyrinnae.com's loose shadows. They have some truly gorgeous duochrome effects and pretty affordable prices at 3g of shadow for about £3.65 or samples you can get several uses out of for £1.25. Their packaging is very minimal and you might want to have something else to transfer it to if you have klutzy fingers like me, but all in all they're pretty wonderful.

ReplyDelete@Meghan: I'd love to try Fyrinnae's shadows but every time I go to the site to try to buy some, it's not accepting orders, and it's hard to work out that it isn't until you've gone through choosing everything. The products might be nice but the buying experience is a pain, which puts me off!

I'll readily admit, during busy times (mostly holidays and ESPECIALLY near Halloween)it's not at all uncommon for their site to be closed for a week, or for sporadic days over the course of a few weeks. It's a pretty frustrating, but I put up with it for the quality and the fact that despite their listed long wait time I always make it through their queue and have my items shipped within a week. :)
ReplyDeleteFyrinnae is a very tiny company, and lately they've gotten better about putting up notices for when they're closed. Wow, this sounds like a hard sell. I'll quit while I'm ahead! XD
