NYE NOTD - Deborah Lippmann "Today was a Fairytale"

Disclosure - PR sample

A new year, a(nother) new polish. Here's Deborah Lippmann's glitteringly spectacular Today was a Fairytale, sister polish to Boom Boom Pow, which featured in Gemma's festive NOTD yesterday. Great minds think alike. While Boom Boom Pow features 24K gold dust, Today was a Fairytale includes 'Virgin Diamond Powder'. Bling!

Here's a single coat of TWAF on a bare nail. You might be able to see that the polish has a very translucent blue jelly base. I really like this effect, although I had to go the whole way and see how many coats I needed for a maxed-out opaque glitter finish.

Turns out the answer was four coats. Despite all the layers and stray sequins you can see here, the finish was surprisingly smooth once dry.

After those experimental applications, I started from scratch with a base of Nails Inc Duchess Street (a dark indigo - purple shade) and applied a single coat of TWAF over the top.

What do you think? Is this glitterbomb a surefire showstopper or is the bling a little too extreme?

  1. Another winning polish here! I love it over the Nails Inc polish - good choice for an undercoat. I've still not got my hands on any of the Lippmann polishes. Both HoFs near me are Lippmann desserts! xx
