Estee Lauder Christmas 2010: Extravagant Gold Eyeshadow Palette

Disclosure: PR sample

We've already had a look at Estee Lauder's Christmas collection via the gloriously rich lip colours available, and now it's time to have a little look at the accompanying eye palette.  Extravagant Gold is a very pretty golden palette containing five eyeshadows in shades of gold and bronze.  Given the rich, vibrant reddish shades available for lips, this palette is understated rather than loud - the shadows are smooth and buttery, but not particularly pigmented.

I had to swatch these pretty heavily to get the depth of colour shown here; a couple of passes over the shadows with my fingertips to really layer them up.  The deepest brown shade is one single pass over with my fingertip, showing that it's very pigmented indeed.

In direct sunlight, against a winter sky, you can really see the gorgeous sparkle and glow that these shadows have.  They look fabulous paired with a strong lip, providing enough interest and contrast to look striking, but not so much that the face looks overdone.

I've really been enjoying using this palette, even though the golden tones are not what I'd usually gravitate towards.  It's also something that I'd be perfectly happy giving as a gift to any woman for Christmas: Estee Lauder is a brand that's universal enough to be enjoyed by any woman of any age, and the sheer pigmentation of these shadows is likely to work well for the older woman.  At £34, it's not a cheap gift, but with the shiny, substantial packaging, usable shades, and obvious quality of product, it's affordably luxe.

If you'd like to grab one of these for yourself, you'll find them exclusively on counter at Boots and the usual department stores, where the palette will cost £34.

  1. Damn, I was hoping these would be more opaque since I love golds :(
