Review - Parian Spirit Brush Cleaner

Disclosure - PR sample

One of the nicest aspects of blogging is being introduced to fantastic products that you'd never have discovered as a day-to-day consumer. Parian Spirit is a case in point. It's a brush cleaner targeted at professional makeup artists, and it's been catching on with the US blogger and vlogger communities thanks to its amazing power and ease of use.

We've just been informed that Pro Makeup Brushes are now the main source of this product in the UK. (Read more at their website here) They sent us a bottle to try out.

Parian Spirit relies on the dissolving power of ecologically friendly citrus to remove all forms of cosmetics, adhesive, wax and pigment from your brushes, while disinfecting and conditioning. It leaves brushes with a slight sheen and dries completely in 1 minute, making it a fantastic asset for makeup artists working on location with a limited brush kit.

If "eco friendly" has you thinking "inefficient", let me set you straight - this stuff obliterates. It destroys. It banishes product from bristles with a iron fist of destruction. A gentle, ecologically sound, brush conditioning iron fist. What could be better than that?

Here's how it works. You fill a jar or dish with just enough Parian Spirit to cover the bristles of your brush (no higher though - you don't want it loosening the glue that holds the bristles in place). You swirl the brush against the bottom of the jar and watch the product float out into the liquid. Then you take the brush out of the jar and blot off the excess liquid on a tissue or cotton wool pad. That's pretty much it.

Compared to the arduous routine I used to go through with a bowl of soapy water each weekend, it's an absolute breeze, and I will be happily repurchasing despite the price tag (it's £19.95 for just under 500ml, although it's currently on offer for £14.95).

I'll also be investing in one of these clever jars which incorporate a sifter at the bottom to catch all the dissolved product. Not currently available in the UK but I'll source one from somewhere!
